Most of us can look back over our life, and pinpoint one or two events that have helped shape how our life looks now, as well as who we have become. For some people, these life changing events put them on a trajectory to greatness; and for some, it has sent them spiraling into what feels like a bottomless pit. So what determines which fork in the road we will take?
I truly do believe we are the sum of the people we surround ourselves with. This plays out exponentially when a life altering event happens. The people we turn to, help us define the meaning of that event. If you surround yourself with people who run their life by Murphy’s Law, they will likely help to define what has happened as worse than what it really is. Or at the very least, help you to see it as a reason to believe the Universe is up to no good.
Conversely, if you surround yourself with “Glass half-full” people, they will help you to find the greatest meaning in the situation, to elevate your life to an even higher calling than what it was prior to this event. This is a big reason why I am such a believer in mentorship. Having someone, or several people in your life whose sole purpose is help you to keep perspective at all times, and to help you to see that in any situation there is opportunity for greatness.
My guest today, Ian Ryan, speaks about the loss of his brother and the impact it has had on his life. In addition to finding meaning during a very difficult time, he also had to push through his fears in order to live a life that he felt called to after this loss. I hope you find this episode inspiring whether or not you are currently facing a life challenge. The truth is, we all have fears and this episode will help you to see them for what they really are, and how to attack them head on.
I would love to hear how you have gotten through some of your life’s challenges and how you have looked fear in the eyes, and walked right through it. Please drop me an email at any of the links below, I would love to share your story of inspiration.
